I kinda like how in the NHL it is a hard cap and you get more league parity

NBA is just a race to who can spend the most to get an all-star team. I know they have a luxury tax and whatnot, but I don't feel those work too well.

Yeah, I mean i'll be honest. I grew up a Red Wings fan, what they did in the mid 90s was BS for the rest of the league, the top 6 forwards were all-stars and they were just brimming with talented players. But I loved it, and I loved that it was the team I liked dominating the league.

I feel like since the cap has been introduced, it's literally any team's championship to win each season, you don't see repeat teams constantly, and there are a lot more surprises and unpredictability because teams can't just load up and max out if they had the money to do so.

The Blues winning the cup this season was pretty much a shocker, especially considering how they were last year and the start of this year.

An expansion team made it to the championship last year. Just a few examples of things that likely don't happen if there is no cap and teams could stack up.

the NBA has a hard cap too. teams just work to free up as much space as possible in preparation for big free agency years like this one. Like the Nets traded Allan Crabbe's contract to Atlanta weeks ago in order to free up enough space to sign Kyrie AND Durant...if they hadn't done that they would only be able to sign one.
