you see games like call of duty with like 800 million clones, but an actual good game like zelda barely has any clones. It doesn't even have shitty clones.

Probably because zelda only has like 4 good games and it's best 2 are open world-ish and there are lots of open world games

the only ones that I can remember being good are 3D Dot Game Heroes and Okami.

I feel like there were more back when they were cheaper to make (aka 2d). No one wants to pour money into a Zelda-clone on a 3D system when there are more profitable knock offs to be made.

not really a "clone" but I got a very zelda-ish feel from crosscode recently. Same sort of sidequests + dungeon structure, puzzle dungeons with occasional enemy battle rooms and enemies were mostly puzzle fights as well

Because genres comes and goes.
When Street Fighter 2 was big, we had tons of fighting games. When Doom was new, everybody made their own FPS. Mario 64 gave birth to many many 3D Platformers. Etc etc. That said, Zelda have inspired some clones. Like Golden Axe Warrior, Neutopia II, Crusader of Centy, Beyond Oasis, Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole, Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas, Okami, Beyond Good & Evil, etc, etc. --- GameFAQs isn't going to be merged in with GameSpot or any other site.
