I didn't like how they tried to make Wolverine look like the good guy and than towards the end they made Batman the good guy instead. Hated that. If they were going to make it out that both of them were dickheads than they should of just stuck with that.

Honestly. they spent too much time establishing that Bale was a prick to then try to pull a 180 at the very end and act like he's a good guy. He was overall the more antagonistic of the two. Even when Jackman did coldhearted stuff to Bale, he did them like a good guy and had a reason to do them, revenge for his wife. Nothing is wrong with that. What's wrong is the movie clearly says that they were both bad but still tried to do the good guy/bad guy thing. They should of just made them look like bad guys equally from the start. That's just my opinion. Still a good movie.

they were both dickheads, but by the end batman had a lot more to live for other than I'M MAD VENGEANCE

that you thought bale was painted as a bad guy at all is kind of a weird takeaway from the movie

probably one of my top 3 or 5 favorite movies

they were both dickheads. but Huge Jacked Man was just a bigger dickhead. Bale did it all for his daughter. They both suffered terrible fates at the end though.

But at first they made Wolverine the more relatable one. He came off more humbled, more modest and a good person. Batman came off as aggressive, oppressive and closed minded. It was mostly his fault Wolverine's wife died.

a haphazard mistake cost wolverine his wife
that was what caused him to become the worse of the two

i know you get this and just think it's clever to keep going with the wolverine/batman thing
right?

This has to be the first time ever on this forum I've seen someone use that correctly instead of the inverse where they usually say "close minded" lolol

Almost everyone disagreed with using Batman's knot because it was risky and they are barely familiar with it. It is hardly just a mistake. The movie definitely wanted the audience to feel like it was Batman's fault.

it was his fault, that's not really at issue here
a mistake can still be someone's fault
but it's not like he killed wolverine's wife maliciously

But it could have easily been avoided if he just did what he was supposed to. It was irresponsible and in today's court and law Batman would have been arrested for involuntary manslaughter. Also, if you were Wolverine you would have definitely been vengeful against Batman for doing something like that.

Wolverine hating Batman was completely understandable and still relatable. That doesn't make him the bad guy yet. Looks like you're not understanding the critique of my point.

your point is already flawed because every narrative does not require a good guy and a bad guy

Looks like you're not getting it but no worries I shall re-explain myself.

No it does not need a good guy and a bad guy. That was not my point. My point was they initially tried that angle first and did a 180. Hope we got that cleared out the way but if you don't no worries I can explain it again in an even simpler way.

I felt it was a bait and switch. They tried way too hard trying to established one person being good and one person being bad in the beginning. Would have liked it if they were both established as gray people initially is all I'm saying. Just a small critique is all and it's just me.

Yes. And Alfred was the worst of them all. He enabled Wolverine to play his game of revenge against Batman and then all of a sudden has a moral compass and supported Batman.

It is a movie about magic, illusions, and misdirection. You should totally expect a bait and switch lol

The theme of the movie though is obsession, and how it can destroy someone. So the journey that Angier goes on makes perfect sense for the movie. He starts off as a good hearted showman, but lets his total obsession with Borden destroy him until his humanity is gone and he is a villain.

I also disagree that Borden wasn't a gray character at the beginning. Actually this goes against the very twist of the movie, that there are actually 2 people playing Borden. One brother is a little more rash, brazen, obsessive, while the other is a little more cool headed and good natured. I mean the whole repeated line about him only truly loving his wife half the time directly illustrates him as "gray", AKA sometimes good sometimes bad.
