To be fair video games in general tend to screw that up. Battlefield is one of the only ones where it comes close. It's lead to so many believing shotguns are perfectly safe out beyond 3-5 meters when reality it's probably closer to 100, even then you've got metal pellets smacking you. In the face that'd be unfun regardless, in the back you might be ok. I've seen super super long tubed shotguns that are several feet/yards long, so they'd be more accurate ofcourse.
