12 y/o Carreion Baker from Michigan was ARRESTED after they saw him playing with his cousin and chasing him with a STICK!!

Police were called to the Grand Rapids area in response of a "large fight"

That's when a cop said he saw Baker running with a WOODEN POLE and hitting a man with a stick. But Baker's family and other residents said he was just playing with his cousin and had no involvement in the fight

His mother, Bernice Jones said the police overreacted and said "My son was playing with one of his cousins, ya know, chasing him down the street like he always do. They started chasing my son. i'm telling, wait, hold on, that's his cousin, he's playing, you know he's only 12". Cops came from nowhere. so many cops and i'm telling them he's only 12, it don't take all of you cops for a 12 year old. Every cop in this area think every black child is violent and will arrest them for any reason."

The handcuffs were removed once he got into the cruise and his mother was asked to follow them to a correctional facility.

Police claims he resisted arrest and kicked an officer when they tried to ask for his age.

He was arrested for resisting and obstructing a police officer and disorderly fighting

The boy was arrested after he tripped and grazed his knee when running

Residents said this was blown out of proportion and the child was clearly playing and not causing any trouble

Neighbor Ted Jauw said "There was some sort of altercation going on there, there were police cars parked across the street all along the street. As they were coming back from whatever had been settled over there, this kid was running across the street but he wasn't running from anybody, he was running and chasing his cousin. The biggest thing was nobody was deescalating"

He made a lengthy post about residents shouting to cops that he was 12 and that was his cousin who he was chasing which the cousin acknowledged. He noted Carreion began strugglign with tears as more officers surrounded him.

Officers said the youth resisted arrest and that's why they needed ADDITIONAL OFFICERS at the scene...in total, 8 COPS were called in.

They said they used the "least" discretion to not arrest the child for felonious assault or assault on an officer rather the least offense for resisting and obstructing an officer

Jauw also posted the picture of the weapon used in the "attack".

Would you arrest a kid for using that "weapon"?

It means he's trying to downplay the incident by making people think less of one of the victims.

It means she has zero grasp of basic grammar. But yeah, I'm sure everyone's looking to accuse people of racism like the mother did the cops.

Also, I cant believe people still take duckbear "articles" at face value knowing that they're all 75%bullshit. So I post comments that are more or less irrelevant to the "story."

Depends the circumstances. I'd imagine as a cop I'd get my "facts" as right as I possibly can before I decided to arrest someone though.

On a side note: Kids can and have been known to actually attack adults with weapons so "it's just a kid!" isn't a excuse too.

As always with duckbear articles, I guarantee there's more to the story than, "just kids playing."

I'm not saying American cops are great but what you see in the news is largely clickbait and not the full picture

And a lot of the reason we have so many problems here is because America is far more crime ridden than any country in Europe on top of the fact that we have 350 mil people. There's a lot more to fear as a cop in america than say a cop in the Netherlands

Indeed. I always skip the rubbish and just read the actual story before commenting. Most the time it's all smoke and no fire. The media are well known for shitposting.

That sentence has one instance of verb-subject disagreement and an interjection (which is only considered appropriate if we're looking at formal speech, which this is not), but is otherwise grammatically perfect. You're very much exaggerating.

That instance is pretty terrible tbh. I'm not even a grammar snob but that's just bad. I wouldnt have made that mistake in 2nd grade and it's pretty much willful ignorance on her part if you ask me

Sure, but that doesn't qualify as "zero grasp of basic grammar." If she truly had zero grasp of basic grammar, the whole sentence would be barely decipherable because it would follow no syntactic rules at all. You're exaggerating purely for the purpose of insulting and discrediting somebody who's done nothing to wrong you in any way, which is just terrible and you should feel terrible.

Also, if you're going to play grammar police, you would do well to bring some commas. Just saiyan.

My problem with this incident isn't that the police might have handled it correctly. My problem is that usually if the kid's WHITE, he and his parents, in that situation, would probably get a lecture from the cops before they left; not a show of force that could escalate into a shooting, which is usually what BLACK kids get. There should be no differences in the law due to skin color or the police's treatment of people; yet there is, which isn't acceptable.
