Each subreddit you must specifically confirm to the popular opinion on that subreddit and dissenting opinions aren't allowed.

it's not just the voting but the way they structure the comments is dumb. what's wrong with this message board style? post something and it gets added below the one before it. and you can read through in a chronological sensible order to see the conversation. on reddit the comments make no sense. it's just all over the place in random order. I don't know what you call what reddit does, but I don't like it. I guess it's similar to youtube comments. except nobody is trying to have a real conversation on youtube comments.

There are some sick in the head freaks on every subreddit.

You ask a simple question. Like how to gear a certain car on Forza and the post gets immediately down voted.

It might be an issue if Reddit didn't have communities for literally everything. If you don't like the popular opinion of one sub, you betcha there's another sub that will welcome you with open arms.

I once got down voted into obscurity for the dumbest reason. Some guy custom painted a pair of joycons, looked really cool. Out of curiosity I asked the price, he says a hundred fifty pounds. I say too rich for my blood but keep up the good work. Cue angry nerds feeling I brought him some great dishonor demanding why I wasn't willing to put up fucking 150+ to a stranger on the net and how I was a cheap bastard for not jumping at the opportunity to support him.

There are lots of subs that aren't extreme. It depends on the mods. Just look at the Game of Thrones recent drama; there's like 5 different subs for it with varying degrees of quality and leniency.

Unless you're going out of your way to get into to debates over controversial subjects like politics or religion, it really isn't that big of a deal.

Or you could visit an advice subreddit and get something reasonable. Or not allow Reddit to influence important life choices in the first place lol.

Yes that is a big problem with reddit. Voting is nice in some ways because it definitely helps show some good content and hide some bad content. But it also causes an obsession with points, an echo chamber, and more.

I hate reddit because whenever I go to a subreddit, it's nothing but blathering idiots pointing out the most obvious shit, or posting really bad fanart, or just being really obnoxious.

People tell me I go to the wrong subreddits, but it literally happens on anything I'm interested in.

The problem with the upvote/downvote system is that the content becomes largely influenced by opportunistic and insecure people who seek these internet points for validation. So many subreddits become nothing more than a perpetual meme-party and echo chamber. You stay on a subreddit for long enough time, you can predict based on the posted content what the most highly upvoted comments would be.

That said, if you are a big fan of a certain TV shows, movies or video games, the memes and circlejerks can be really enjoyable and fun to read. And the speed of upload and quality of highlight videos on sports subreddits like r/soccer and r/nba are second to none. Just know that if you want quality discussion, you'd probably have to start one (a new thread) yourself.
