It had the best setting/scenery of any 3D Mario, it was lots of fun and was a lot more challenging than Galaxy/3D world/Odyssey.

Nah. It reviewed very well and is remembered fondly by most. I only had a few issues with it. Basically it was too short, there is not enough areas, no classic power ups, it's a bit too easy for the most part and it has little replay value. It does have a great cinematic presentation and setting though. It's almost on par with 3D World and Odyssey overall, but still falls short and is probably the "worst" 3D main console Mario game.

I played through it last year & it's a fun, good-looking game... but there's just so, so many bad design choices. Objectively the worst 3D Mario.

Odyssey, for the most part, yes. Galaxy and 3D World are somewhat similar challenge wise, but to a lesser extent, because Galaxy and 3D World get legit challenging in the later optional stages.

I actually think the Galaxy games were about equal to Sunshine, difficulty-wise... on that note, I'd actually consider 3D World the hardest 3D Mario solely because of the postgame stages.

It's sandwiched between 64 and Galaxy though, so it gets shit on alot

Id argue that while Mario 64 was better for its era, its objectively worse than Sunshine today. 3D World was also weaker than Sunshine.

I agree. It kind of gets shit on(for a Mario game). One of my favorite gamecube games though, and that's a pretty strong library

3D Land is worse.

3D Land is a portable game and is actually pretty good overall. Surprisingly it has a better final boss fight than 3D World and I think it's slightly better than Sunshine too.
