So like I have a BA in Political Science and I am working on a Masters also in Political Science (lol flipping burgers i know but i like it) and the thing is everyone takes it so personally. Everyone always has to be like "oh i don't need a political science degree I know just as much as you do blah blah blah" or "oh god that kid posts so many political articles on facebook its so annoying"

Lets say I was a Chemistry major. Do you think people would be like "oh i don't need a chemisty degree to talk about chemistry etc etc" or "oh god he is posting more chemistry articles on facebook he ALWAYS does this its so annoying etc"

Like why can't people just respect the fact that I've put a lot of time and effort in studying politics and political theory? I'm literally not trying to shove my views down your throat I'm just sharing what I've learned and trying to discuss things in a proper manner.

And I'm not elitist about my politics either, I have PLENTY of republican friends and it's totally fine, but I'm not going to hide parts of my life or personality just because you get triggered easily and need a safespace lmao.

I haven't gotten laid since November of last year and I'm really embarrassed about it. I used to be really skinny but I've gained a lot of weight and I don't have the same charm with the ladies that I used to =/

I have an MA in politcal science and was working towards a phd in the topic at one point 10 years ago.

Yes your point is largely one I share.

My specialization is am gov/public policy and poltical theory. I pretty much avoid debating politics online and person, outside select groups. I just sometimes comment on points of facts lay people online misunderstand or are unaware exist and then leave the topic.

Do not loose sleep over it, you will be happier that way.

Haha on weight. I was 170 at the start of grad school and was like 210 by the end. Horrible experience.

The thing is politics is one of those things that people can know nothing about and think they know a lot about because what is considered politics is wide and expansive. If you watch CNN and repeat what "political" pundits say, you might think you know about politics. If you read enough Vox articles, you might think you know something about politics.

Chemistry is different because there is no substanstive pop or weak version of it. There isn't a mainstream show with people sharing shallow positions on chemistry for people to absorb. So people know they don't know anything about chemistry.

I know more about politics than most of my friends, but less than anyone who takes politics seriously, and certainly less than anyone who has gotten more than a BA. As time has gone on with me not following seriously, I've gotten less confident in my ability to talk about it, and I've admitted it, but a lot of people don't do that.

Politics are opinions based on people's personality, experiences, environment, as well as data.

Chemistry is based on scientific evidence and facts.

Anybody can have an opinion on politics, even if it's uninformed. Not everyone has the facts to talk about chemistry. Chemistry is not something you really have an opinion about.

I understand where you're coming from. You just kind of have to let it go.

Yeah I'm getting an MS. For some reason my college only offers MS's in Political Science, pretty weird.

But yeah it just sucks that I have to be private about what I am passionate about, I'd like to be more open with my views.

Now that I'm past typical college age, talking to PoliSci major friends is always a treat. There's so much background knowledge on political groups and data that I wish i learned about.

I had considered an actual career from PoliSci, but felt like I had better talents.
If you're going to argue on the Internet, I'd say always open with some heavy history or information so information can tell you know more than the layman. If you have the background, you have to be able to use it, otherwise you don't really have it.

So what is Political Science anyways? Is it geared more towards the study of different political ideologies, or is it stuff like voting patterns/political strategies?

It can be both. I'm more heavy on political theory personally but at this point of my life I am pretty well rounded.

I have a BA in Poli Sci too and to be honest I barely remember most of the stuff.

I think it should reset and I should have my degree taken away. I was also heavy on political theory.
