Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, told reporters on Friday that Mr. Trumps efforts should be applauded, pointing out that President Barack Obama, whose administration oversaw a series of regulations meant to protect L.G.B.T. rights, did not initially take office as a public defender of same-sex marriage.

Hes the first president to start as president for approving of gay marriage, Ms. Conway said of her boss.

Yeah as much as the lgbt says hes against them I think its just the T part of them he really doesnt like. Which I understand they want/deserve rights too.

I understand not liking the man but I'm at the very least happy and surprised even he hasnt attempted repealing gay marriage so far. I'll wait till if he gets a second term before I fully applaud him for that though.

Trump isn't pro LGBT, just because he says he is doesn't make it so. He's stripped the most LGBT rights of any president and increased christo-fascist protections to discriminate to the extent that now a physician can refuse to treat a trans person and not face any repercussions, nor is there a meaningful and explicitly specified exception for life saving emergency care. Not that there weren't already instances of emergency responders and ER doctors leaving trans women to bleed out in front of them as they laugh.
