You find a key somewhere in your house. You have no idea what it goes to, but you don't want to throw it away just in case it's important. So you toss it in a drawer. Next thing you know you've got a drawer full of keys that obviously went to something, but you just can't bring yourself to discard them because you might eventually figure out what it's for.

I remember when I lived back home, we had a drawer like that.

Same here, although it wasn't a drawer but a key rack. It held keys we used all the time, but there were far more keys on there that were never used/nobody knew what they were used for.

Start looking for a hidden chest or case and when you find it, try to unlock it and open it up to see if anything of worth is inside.

I know where all the keys at home go, but I did work in an office once where all the drawers and cabinets and whatnot had coded locks (i.e. you'd give the code on the lock to a locksmith and they'd cut a key for it based on that code) and the central key inventory was so disorganized that nobody had any idea which keys went with which desks. I took it upon myself to inventory the locks and the keys we already had, in the intent of making sure everybody had keys for all of their locks and we could discard the spares, but unfortunately I ended up assigned to a different project before I could finish that and the person who took over it didn't exactly finish the job.

We did have that when I was growing up, but where I live now I know what all the keys do

I have some that are from my great great grandparents. I'm sure whatever they went to is long gone but some are really cool looking.
