My grandfather is like this with his kids.

He came from a literal, actual abandoned plot of dirt, worked his ass off on the way up, the American dream except he never made it all the way up to middle class until he retired.

He meant well, he made sure his family ate, but he treated them like shit. He himself wasn't raised by anyone and had no way to process his emotions beyond screaming and violence.

So he doesn't understand why they all have mental issues and why "I'm the only one that came out okay in his lineage." Cause you fucked em up, man. But he's too old to understand.
