Tl;dr: r/freefolk is the subreddit you went to if you wanted GoT leaks. r/gameofthrones didnt like them because spoilers so theres always been a long-standing feud. Season 8 airs. Freefolk hates it, GoT loves it. GoT says Freefolk are negative and aggressive, and it gets left at that.
Freefolk decides to turn the final season into something positive, and pins Emilia Clarks charity to the top of their sub. Emilia herself hears of this and makes a video, which then gets posted on r/GoT. The mods got pissy, because their rival sub made it, and actively, aggressively, decided to delete HUNDREDS of comments and threads mentioning the charity. Now the sub is melting down, the mods who lied and said their bots did all the banning, have been called out, and everyone is unsubbing and all the mods are stepping down. Imagine being so petty you ban all mentions of a charity because the bad guys shilled for it. This is like a legit True North vs South conflict lol.
