China needs to export their shit to the USA or their economy will collapse. They can't afford to pay these teriffs. Their economy is already struggling before the trade war. Meanwhile the USA is richer than ever and most people are living well.

Like, the average American isn't bothered by some poorly made shit shirt at Walmart increasing in price by $2. But for the average Chinese citizens these margins are critical and their country will suffer greatly.

china is building one hell of a geoeconomic matrix in eurasia intended to counterbalance and even undermine american hegemony

the trade war does us no good, and will prove inconsequential in the long run

Well it will make China think twice next time they want to bullshit America around and back out of good deals at the last second

if things play out as planned, china, the countries involved in the matrix, and perhaps eventually the rest of the world beyond america's immediate economic sphere / major trading partners (minus china) won't need america

then things get ugly here

Let's be honest no one on this board has the slightest clue on how to gauge who will win the trade war, everyone is a wannabe economist

I'd say if China changes the practices that Trump cites for starting the war, then America wins. But I don't think that will happen.

i don't pretend to be a macroeconomist

but it's well known that the global economic power of the us hinges on the rest of the world buying and selling petroleum using the us dollar, with dissidents being subject to sanctions and other forms of political pressure and of course military intervention at an extreme

with this demand as a global reserve currency serving to prop up its value, which would otherwise potentially be in dire straights given the obscene amount of debt that has been assumed, with only the interest actually being paid down by the budget

the petroyuan alone naturally poses an existential threat to this order, moreso than any trade imbalance

So you're saying if countries refuse to bend to the US economic demands they'll use military intervention to force them over?

iraq and libya are the classic examples of this extreme at work

in general pushing sanctions and backing coups are preferred alternatives

There was more to those than purely economic considerations
