I always find it funny how people who don't do anything at all are always the ones crying that someone giving away 18 billion dollars to charity isn't enough.

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everythingall she had to live on.

Excuse me, have you ever donated a billion dollars? No? Didn't think so!

Lmao, those brainlet pics get more and more ridiculous

But yeah it's funny how often they just openly disagree with their god. If Jesus came back he'd be called a cuck and a pussy by them, lol. Weird how contrarianism has shaped the current state of politics -- the secularist heathens follow Jesus' example better than his actual followers do.

Seeing left wingers use "but Jesus!!!" in their arguments is always an eye-roller.

Based on the things he says and does, Jesus stands for people making their own choices. Which honestly most left and right winders are against.

its funny because most people hating on wealthy people wouldnt hate it if they became wealthy. jealousy is a serious thing.

True look at all the "oh yeah if she is so good why don't she donate 99%!!!!!"

By that logic I could count the number of folks ITT white knighting the wealthy hoping they'll be able to get summa that.

Nobody is thinking like this. But keep creating that fantasy world.

I literally said this in response to a fantasy another poster came up with: that everyone who isn't wealthy is "just jealous". I quoted them and everything.

This.

I already replied with why that user's comment actually made sense, and aligned more with reality, and why your's, whether it was really a jest or not, did not, even as a gotcha response.

And when I said your fantasy world, it wasn't said just because of that comment, but your whole ideal as a whole. Jealousy is a very real thing. It's no make believe. But this certainly is.

Not gonna lie.

First thoughts on this?

Half is good.

99% is better.

Well how about the fantasy that you subscribe to, sir?

Tell me what the ex Mrs. Bezos (is she going to be known by that forever by the way?) can do with 18 billion that she can't do with 370 million.

Every praise for her donation of 18 billion crashes against the reality that she still retains 18 billion. Enough money to put her in the top 50 wealthiest people in the world. Not top million. Not top thousand. Top fifty.

It goes back to the true fantasy: the idolizing of the rich that this country is so fond of: Wow, look at all the money they have. They must be a gooooood person to have all that money. God rewards the virtuous with wealth beyond their dreams, says the Prosperity Gospel. And they're donating! Look at such blessed people they are that they can have all this money and give a portion of it to us. What goooood people they are to bless us peons with their wealth. And because I believe wholeheartedly in capitalism, surely my time will come where I will be blessed with wealth and can take my place at their side with all the wealthy good. My time will come if I just believe.

Guess what. Just because you subscribe to that, just because the desire to be rich burns within you, doesn't mean everyone thinks the same. I don't care if I don't see a red cent of what she donates. I live with enough to keep me healthy and comfortable, and I wouldn't know what to do with such an excess. Wealth is not what drives me. What I wish is that everyone I know and love could afford the same health and comfort that I have, which for many, they can't.

The increasing wealth gap is my evidence that no individual should control that much money, and if she truly cared so little about the money that she was getting from her divorce, then why is she keeping enough of it to rank in the top fifty wealthiest people?

Hell, at the end of the day, she can still do whatever she wants with her money. I'm not going for "eat the rich" at this time. The point of my posts is about the smokescreen of virtue that's being put up over this. I'm not denying that 18 billion going to charity is a good thing. I said it was good in my very first post. I'm just shining that light behind the smokescreen to the reality behind the fantasy of a "virtuous rich person".

It's not about "percentage of wealth". It's about excess. It's about extravagance.

A billion dollars in the control of a single individual is extravagant, and I don't think any claims of jealousy can convince me otherwise.

50% is good. 99% is better.

Oh and here's a hard reality for you.

You will never get there.

There was another quite illustrating example recently. Emilia Clarke started some foundation for stroke victims or somesuch. Because she herself had it, it opened her eyes to how horrible, tragic and unfair it can be. Naturally that's commendable, right?
Take a step back then, and consider all the horrible, tragic and unfair things that can happen to people. Weird syndromes, cancers, heart failures, radiation poisoning, terrorist attacks, the list can go on forever. Should we keep relying on really rich people to be personally affected by these kinds of tragedies before they can get attention and money? Then we, as a society, are just living at the whims of the very rich.

Yikes, I see I hit home on something there, and now you're on a gibberish rant. Only thing I've said was people were allowed to do what they wish with their wealth, and they didn't owe shit to anyone. And now you're bringing up idolizing, and smokescreens, and all that other nonsense.

Hell, at the end of the day, she can still do whatever she wants with her money.

So you agree then. There was 0 point for your essay response then. Also, I don't need to get "there". I'm at the point of my life with a family, a roof over our heads, and a good job I'm satisfied with, and own. I don't need to get there. I have already arrived. But thanks.

You skipped a key point of what I said.

What I wish is that everyone I know and love could afford the same health and comfort that I have, which for many, they can't.

Everyone. Not just the person I married and my children. Everyone.

Sure, you got yours, but what about others in your life? You probably don't have enough to care for everyone, but you know who does?

If you don't care about everyone else, at least be honest with that.

I hope the donation will have a lasting impact. It seems a lot of money goes into charity donations, yet nothing ever comes out of it. Would much rather see her charity money start some kind of initiative to clean up the trash in the ocean.
