George W Bush technically served in the military too. Don't think it really matters much or would change much of anything.

That defeats the whole point of the Constitution in the first place, that any citizen is allowed to run for office. Sure it helps. And that can factor into your decision to vote for someone or not, but making it a requirement? Absolutely not.
