Work? I mean, the protein content in them is probably real, it's the sugars and stuff that's the real wonder.

Do I like them? No. They are almost always disgusting and they take forever to eat so you really get a sense for the taste(unlike protein drinks where you can just down them in like 5 seconds). Only ones I can really stomach are Clif bars. In terms of working? I mean, they are what they say. A quick source of protein/fiber/whatever.

most of them are basically candy bars

If you think they taste like candy bars you must eat some dogshit candy bars...

Some of them taste really good. Kind are great but they're probably out of the price range that most people are willing to spend on protein bars

True. If you're eating just for protein that's the way to go. Protein bars should really be looked at for the combination of nutrients. Just eating them for protein is a waste

Eggs are still superior in this regard unless you're one of these fools who refuses to eat the yolk.

Nah eggs have 0 fiber and you get far more Mono and Polyunsaturated fats from some protein bars. Eggs also have a shitload more cholesterol

Eh, if you say so. I'd rather have the cholesterol than the sugar and I can get my fiber by eating actual food.

I avoid the bars due to the sugar content, or diet sugar. Eat a spoon of peanut butter instead.

Isn't that sort of missing the point? You're not supposed to just be eating protein bars for lunch. It's for when you're having a busy day and the best you can do is grab one from the gas station for a quick boost. Obviously eating real food is better for you but the occasional protein bar serves its purpose.

Thats why you only eat the egg whites. You can eat one whole egg too if you want, it isn't going to do anything to you.

This guy gets it. I don't think you'll find many people that want to carry around a few boiled eggs in their pocket >_>

Most of them have a ton of carbs, but they can serve as a quick meal replacement. The ones that are actually "protein bars," ie, more protein than carbs, usually don't taste that good. (Quest bars and the like).

Yeah Quest bars are so damn popular with so many flavors, and they all suck. Not a fan of the sweetness that they have, like an unnatural, unpleasantish sweetness.

Never been a fan of the bars tbh. I used to have them every now and again when I was younger, but only if I couldn't down a shake or eat a meal right away (those times when you're really on the run). They're pretty bland, bad/unhealthy ingredients, usually shitty cardboard texture. Super expensive for what they are too, at least where I live. Better than nothing if you must rely on them, but I'd rather just down a whey shake and then eat a solid meal a few hours later.

I keep a box of them in the house but I save them for when I know I'm going to be on the go and there will be nothing else. The rest of the time I get my protein from real food and shakes. Protein bars would be too expensive to eat as a regular thing and their calorie/fat to protein ratio isn't that great either.

Only protein bar that's worth it to me are the quest ones, which I eat whenever I'm traveling for work. I mainly like it for the low sugar, high protein, high fiber.

A can of tuna is good if you're just worried about protein

Quest Bars are my go to. Specifically, their Hero lineup with Blueberry Cobbler and Caramel something-something made with allulose. Birthday cake and Waffle Maple Syrup are good too. Low in net carbs, high in protein, little to moderate fat.

just buy the Walmart "Great Value" protein bars. They're $1.90 for a box of 5. They're the exact same thing as the Fiber One Protein Bars. Walmart literally stole the recipe and re-packaged it under their own brand.

I think the macros are something like this:

12F
10P
17C

Cheap and does the job. You can't beat it.

Most of them use erithrytol with the hero bars using mostly allulose with 1 gram of erithrytol. Allulose doesn't get a reaction from the human body so it's dumped out which means it doesn't trigger an insulin response. However, long term testing and how it affects the body remains to be seen.

None of it matters though if it tastes awful which is something that comes down to the individual. The most healthy food on the world won't matter if you have to force yourself to ingest it.

they have low sugar and still have an unpleasantish level of sweetness because they use stevia, which is generally recognized as safe by the FDA, but some studies suggest it could be linked to things like kidney damage, gastrointestinal problems, low blood sugar, and low blood pressure. it's all disputed, of course, but personally i don't trust any sugar replacements.

Yeah I'd rather just eat the sugar if I'm going to indulge in the first place. I don't know if stevia is healthy but I'm just not a fan of the fake sugar stuff.
