seems like a very childish thing to want. They really just aren't mature enough to be able to nicely ask them not to talk?

It's the same reason as somebody wanting to order pizza online instead of over the phone--no miscommunication, no misunderstanding. If you don't wanna talk, you don't wanna talk. If you don't wanna talk, then logically you don't want to talk in order to tell your driver that you don't wanna talk.

It can be difficult to say "I don't feel like talking right now" without looking snobby. You may be anti-social, and thus understand non talkative people, but other people are social butterflies and could easily take it the wrong way.

There are people who see someone not smiling and think "Why are they mad at me?", when it's really just "I'm fine. Just don't feel like smiling."

That being said, I don't mind if other people want to talk to me. I'm just not a conversation starter.

Most of my friends that do Uber have the policy to not say anything unless the passenger wants to talk. I personally do kind of leave it to the driver, and they pretty much all follow that same rule, thus they're never talking to me if I don't want to. I have started and had great conversations though.

I also find the option itself really weird. Like, enabling it before the ride seems ok, but I heard you can do it mid-ride, which is really weird and you'd come off as a dick.

I'm gonna have to agree. I've mostly only seen threads hating Gamestop for "not shutting up and letting me buy my game in peace." There were a few about their used/new game policies but it's been mostly introverts complaining.
