Closure is bullshit and it's not going to change anything and you're never going to truly get it because people like that are always going to lie.

Spend less time getting over it and more time getting better. The past is impossible to change, you are not.

I've been on both sides of this battlefield.

I've cheated on only one gf, but did it multiple times. I didn't get caught, but I also didn't try and justify it. I only did it because -I knew- there was no chance of getting caught and what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her. I guess I don't have a guilty conscience or whatever that term is, because it never presented any issues and we ended things amicably and without incident after a few years of dating.

On the flip side, I've been cheated on three times. The first two times, it was obvious what was going on and both girls played dumb and didn't really have any reason or excuse other than saying "I'm sorry, I'll stop talking to him, I promise!". The third time, I was completely blind sided by it and her excuse was "I felt like you didn't love me" which was strange considering this was the first girl I'd ever lived together with and I thought I was doing plenty to show her how much I cared... so who knows.

The fact is there isn't really any "one thing" that's going through someone's mind when they decide to cheat. Someone could justify it to themselves for any number of reasons.

The best thing I can recommend would be to remove yourself from the situation and try to move on.
