I thought this was going to happen years ago. Right when the show was about to overtake the books. I thought that would happen. It didnt.

It would actually be clever from a marketing standpoint. Peak hype. Millions watching. There is no point going forward that would have a bigger impact.

This is why I'm still hesitant to start the books. If he can't be bothered to finish them, I don't want to get emotionally invested in them only to be left hanging 3/4 of the way through.

I'll give GRRM some credit and say that, at this point in the series with so many intersecting plotlines and characters, I can see how it would be really hard to write. I've written two novel-length stories (not as long as a ASOIAF book obviously, I think one was like 80,000 words and the other was 132,498 words) that were nowhere near as complex as one of his and they took me 7 months and a bit over a year, respectively. I can only imagine how much more time they'd take with more complexity and more to balance as a whole.

With that said...eight years, oof. He could have done like a chapter a month and been done by now. He definitely has some issues pacing himself.

On another note, I still say that I'd love to see the greatest "Fuck you" in TV history, with GoT ending with GRRM shooting Dany from offscreen, walking up, saying that he gives no fucks any more and is never finishing the books because he's rich as hell, and dancing as money rains down on him while the credits roll. I mean, it would obviously never happen, but it would be the most legendary ending to anything in TV history.

Same here, though I've read the first two, but am leery to start the rest. It's a lot of time to dedicate to reading the series and I don't want to be left hanging either.
