When in the same episode they MENTION THE FUCKING IRON FLEET

How sloppy are these writers? How does this happen?

They lost interest and were half assing their way to the finish line cause they got excited to work on star wars. Basically they gave up on GoT and probably weren't fully paying attention to their work

Why didn't HBO just get new showrunners with a passion for the series after season 4? They wanted 10+ seasons but Benioff and Weiss told them no and that they don't have enough story for that which is bs.

Anyone still defending D&D or the writing on Game of Thrones simply has their heads in the sand or up their you know whats.

I've been criticizing the quality of the show among a vocal minority of others since season 5 but I guess it took them completely shitting their pants in the final season for the rest of the casuals to catch on as well.

Good question. Wonder if some contractual shit restricted them from getting new show runners. There's no way HBO wouldnt want to prolong this show's finale.

it was a slow downfall in term of writing quality as they approached the end of the book material. after that there were sharp drops each season, but at least had some nice moments of decent writing. now, it's like it's 11:50 pm and your online essay is due in ten minutes so you've gotta get those last 3 pages done and uploaded so you just start mashing the keys as fast as you can even if the sentences don't make sense

They really should have changed head writers when they started overtaking the books; these guys clearly didn't sign on for not only covering, but delivering on buildup promised for years by the source material.

I have to admit I defended the show up until the Beyond the Wall episode which was just ludicrous. But you are right, the writing has been significantly weaker since season 5.

Season 5 had:
-The character assassination of Stannis.
-The horrible Dorne plot. Just...why? What were they thinking?
-Littlefinger selling Sansa to the Boltons for no real good reason.
-Ramsay the Villain Sue and his Twenty Good Men.
-The extremely underwhelming Braavos arc for Arya.
-Brienne sitting in a tower waiting for a candle all season.
-Jon getting murdered for letting Wildlings through the Wall...after he let Wildlings through the Wall...?

Season 6 had:
-Davos asking Melisandre to resurrect Jon even though he had no real connection to him? And he defended his body for some reason? WTF? Why doesn't Davos go home to his wife? It's been like 6 years...
-The start of teleporting characters (Theon/Yara going to Meereen in like 2 episodes and Jon/Sansa teleporting all around the North to build an army to fight Ramsay in ONE episode).
-The absolutely atrocious conclusion to Arya's story in Braavos. She walks around in broad daylight knowing the Faceless Men are after her, gets stabbed several times, jumps in disease-ridden canal water, and then sleeps off her wounds only to do more ninja parkour and rooftop jumping the next day? I've never seen such plot armor.
-Euron Greyjoy in general. Such a disappointing adaptation of an amazingly twisted villain.
-Sansa not telling Jon about the Knights of the Vale in advance and allowing thousands of men and her little brother to die for no reason
-The North somehow not rising against Ramsay and Jon's army being pathetic. So much for The North Remembers.
-Cersei blowing up the Great Sept of Baelor with zero consequences. Shouldn't there be a huge uprising among the smallfolk following this due to the Sparrows being part of a populist movement? Did she really kill EVERY single Sparrow? Contrived and absurd.
-The Battle of the Bastards and Jon's failure of commanding. Jon's feckless leadership is still a thing in season 8 too. Can the writers give him a fucking win? Why was he even brought back at this point?

There's even more than this but they clearly are only good at adapting stories, not telling them...:(

Dany was focused on Jon and ending this quickly before he could usurp her, so it makes some sense. She wasn't listening to people's words, she was desperate.
