I remember prior to Napster... the first ways I got MP3s were from chat rooms. Youd need to find someone who was hosting, theyd tell you what songs they had, youd put in a request and theyd send it to you.

I dont remember the details of how it worked specifically, and Im sure it was a great way to get viruses. But it worked.
