Legislators in San Francisco have voted to ban the use of facial recognition, the first US city to do so.

The emerging technology will not be allowed to be used by local agencies, such as the citys transport authority, or law enforcement.

Additionally, any plans to buy any kind of new surveillance technology must now be approved by city administrators.

It is unclear from the article if this new law will just apply to city agencies or all businesses. This feels like a horrifyingly bad decision, but I'm curious what other people think of the move.

That technology should not be in the hands of anyone but the Feds.
