You mean replace the auto tranny with a manual tranny?

Seen it done a couple of times, thinking of doing it with my project car too. Most common is people putting a Borg Warner powerglide in for drag racing.

I'd probably just try to source a four speed that was optional with my model though. Not interested in racing, just want it for fun.

It's cheaper just because a manual is cheaper. Don't think labor too awfully different

Working on a manual is easier

An auto is a hell of a lot heavier. We put another manual in my buddy's truck like ten years ago

The real question is what kind of car it is... if it's one that's front engine rear wheel drive it'd be annoying, but not the worst. If it's a front engine front wheel drive it'd be a slight nightmare in comparison because of how the engine is most likely transversely mounted and the transmission hugs and wraps around the bottom side of the engine with 2 CVs running out either end. 4wd/awd are some sort of the above.

There is an offchance it's mid or rear with the same transverse layout, but can't think of any that would be for sure automatic outside of maybe an oldie that eludes me.

I work with a guy who put a new AT in his car. he messed up a couple times and had to take it apart and put it back together a handful of times. My take from it, do not forget which bolts go where. That was his biggest mistake and it took him weeks to figure it out.
