Dunning-Kruger to the nth degree.

Imagine thinking you're smarter than public health experts, even when you have zero biology education.

Imagine asking the same stupid-ass questions in your echo chamber, deliberately ignoring how many times they've been definitively answered.

"Why should vaccinated kids care if mine are unvaccinated?"

Because vaccines aren't 100% effective you tool.

"More people died of MMR than measles!"

Because there have been 20 million MMRs for every case of measles. Learn to basic math.

"Measles was not a big deal!"

1 in 1,000 people died from it, and 95% of Americans developed it before the age of 30.

In the 50's, that resulted in 500 deaths/year. Mostly kids. Are you saying 500 kids die per year of the MMR vaccine?

"I don't trust CDC numbers or big pharma!"

So you're a conspiracy theorist nutcase who can't handle being wrong. Got it.

It's one of those things like a religion, so much of their self and who they are is wrapped up in it that to question is almost like questioning their own existence. It isn't going to happen.

Studies have shown that anti-vaxxers actually become emboldened and stronger in their views when exposed to incontrovertible evidence that they're wrong.

There's basically no way to actually change their minds using rationality.

Nothing short of public scorn will change them.

And I feel thats exactly why well never win them over. Some people cant be won over instantly. Some need time. And if were kind, compassionate, and patient, I feel well be more likely to convince them. When has mocking someone ever convinced then of your side on things?

Except that's just the thing - the evidence has shown that this actually emboldens them. Patiently explaining science to them REINFORCES the opinions they have, even when it directly refutes their beliefs.

They're driven by a blind-leading-the-blind mentality of a small, tight-knit community of meme-sharing, mostly homeschooled unemployed parents who believe academia is out to get them, that elitists are trying to rule the world, etc.

No conspiracy theory is considered too ridiculous to them. An astonishing number of them actually believe vaccines were designed as a hidden eugenics plot.

This is why we need to make anti-vaxxing illegal. We don't have time to wait for child abusers and ecoterrorists to slowly change their minds over generations, if even possible. People are being physically hurt NOW.

Treating them as if they have opinions worth listening to gives them legitimacy that they don't deserve.

Then let them live in a giant anti-vaxxer community in an a state with plenty of space for it and where they aren't a threat to anyone but their own. Then when they've all died of easily preventable diseases we can at least hold their idiotic sacrifice up for future generations to see the perils of being that fucking stupid and dangerous.

Then lets change the law. Insulting them isnt helping.

We can say whatever we want to them if what they do is wrong and illegal. Do you think it's wrong to call a bank robber names? Are we only perpetuating bank robberies and actually making them more likely?

The only time I have seen an anti-vaxxer change their stance is when it bites their kid in the ass. I have a "friend" that was anti-vaxxer to the point that she wouldn't even give her kids tylenol for fevers. Her daughter ended up brain damaged because she sat at a fever for a couple of days. Now she listens to her daughters pediatrician and medical experts. I know another woman that went through a similar situation involving measles.

And yet they're not held accountable.

They moan about how hard it is to sue vaccine manufacturers for adverse events, then don't even conceive of the possibility that they should be held accountable for the adverse event of getting the disease and having permanent damage from it.

How is that a gotcha?

They believe vaccines cause harm, so why would they be willing to have their child participate in a double-blind trial where they are exposed to vaccines?

How do you not just live in fear and distrust of everything if "people have abused X" is all you need? Do you just not go trust medicine in general? Do you not drive? Do you not exist near other human beings? Name something that doesn't have a "history" of being used for ill.
