For those who want Kevin Sorbo's character (the atheist) to be better presented, you should check out the spin-off movie "Let There Be Light", which was produced by Kevin Sorbo and starring him and his wife. It's more Indie than God's not dead, but much better than the two God's Not Dead sequels.

The movie sorta continues his story (though it's left vague whether this is in the same universe or not). While it is still one of your Christian moral movies, it takes a much more grounded approach to faith and even sends a message that believing in God won't make things end well for you (in that even after he commits his life to God, something terrible happens in the movie that is not fixed at the end).

I caught it on Hulu randomly (or was it Netflix? One of those two). I thought it was decent.

Problem is the character is still this huge straw man of the "angry atheist." Not really a fair or complex character. But yeah it is a better movie.

The thing about these types of Christian movies is that they are not trying to make a good movie. They are not trying to change anyone's minds ether. They are made basically to stroke the ego of other like minded Christians. They watch these movies to confirm their persecution complex, and to confirm to themselves that they are right. They immature real movies but are just propaganda with the purpose of making someone feel better about themselves.

I know. Christian films like this are not really unique in of themselves. I mean Asylum also does Christian movies in addition to mockbusters.

I've noticed that evangelicals rely quite heavily on deathbed conversions in their stories.

It's great because not only does your subject get saved, but you also have the satisfaction of them kicking it and they don't have to make any real changes in their life (and thus avoids the issue of "backsliding").
