Surprised to see both Goldfinger and Thunderball so low, I feel like most people have at least one or the other in their top 5.

I like it. One of my favorites actually.

I wouldn't be able to put a list together until I rewatch OHMSS, most of the Moores, and the Daltons again.

Just wanted to pause real quick and say that Live And Let Die is definitely my favorite Bond theme of the films I've seen so far.

I still love You Know My Name more, but as I haven't actually seen that film yet, I feel like it's unfair to count it yet.

Side note, I wonder if Bond uses condoms, and/or how many STDs he's picked up over the years. The dude gets around, that's for sure.

I think watching the Bond series has made me realize that I'm not a huge fan of chase sequences.

8. Doctor No.
7. You Only Live Twice
6. Diamonds Are Forever
5. Live and Let Die
4. From Russia With Love
3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
1. (Tied) Goldfinger
1. (Tied) Thunderball

This one was kinda of a mixed bag for me, but not because of Moore. I really, REALLY enjoyed him as Bond. He probably already has the longest streak of consistently great one liners; Connery and Lazenby both had some duds here and there, but Moore was consistently great with his quips. He also had tons of charm without feeling like he had a stick up his ass half the time like Connery. After 6 movies of dealing with Connery's sleaziness, it was kind of refreshing that, even though he still tricked a woman into having sex with him, he at least had the decency to admit it to her after the fact. That's something at least... right?

I also really appreciated that Moore's Bond seems to genuinely be interested and appreciate Q's gadgets. He got real hype about that watch at the beginning, and in general he seemed appreciative of his gadgets. Connery was always weirdly bitchy about it when he got new gear.

Solitaire was a solid Bond girl, and Kananga was a solid villain, even if his death scene made me literally laugh out loud.

The biggest things holding this film back for me were the general bad guys being stupid and putting Bond in an easy to escape trap when you could just fucking shoot him in the head, although that's a problem the whole series has, and the boat chase scene.

I fucking HATED the boat chase scene. It might honestly be one of my least favorite moments in the series so far. It lasted forever, we got almost no actual focus on Bond himself during the FIFTEEN FUCKING MINUTE long chase, and instead got some stupid racist redneck hillbilly cops who were annoying as fuck and just really brought the momentum of the film to a grinding halt. I was really vibing with the film, cheesiness and all, I lowkey loved Bond hopping across the alligators to safety.up until the boat scene.

IDK, maybe because I live in the south and get to see how shitty and racist this place is first hand, but seeing it in films constantly gets really annoying. Like, yes, trust me, I know there's racist, dumbass shitbags here. I don't wanna have to see it in film too every single time any character goes to any part of the south.

Otherwise, the film was decent at worst. Definitely a lot of cheese, but it felt a lot more balanced than say, Diamonds are Forever. If it didn't have that damn long-as-fuck boat chase, this would probably be fighting with OHMSS for third for me. As is though, couldn't put it any higher than 5th, that scene was too unlikeable for me and lasted way too long to not knock it down a few pegs.

I like Moore so far though, curious to see where he goes from here.

I like Live And Let Die a lot - it was the first Bond film I owned, and at one point it was my favourite. Always enjoyed the boat chase too. Moore hits the ground running, and I think he only gets better in a couple of films time.

Without giving too much away... based on your thoughts on this one, there's some bad news as far as The Man With The Golden Gun is concerned.

Also, I'm noticing that I'm consistently the only person that has Dr. No so low on their list. I don't personally see the appeal tbh. Sure, it started the whole thing, but compared to the rest of the films I've seen so far, it was pretty... forgettable.

As many issues as I had with YOLT and DAF, they at least were memorable.

I like what they did with Baron Samedi in Live and Let Die

He is just kind of there. It is never clear why he's working with the other villains. This a good way to make him seem more supernatural instead of just a typical criminal in a Bond movie. You think his magic is just some bullshit but then when Bond shots the supposedly clay Baron Samedi in the head his eyes move to look at the wound. Him laughing at the very end is probably may favorite ending scene in the series

It's still quite on the nose! As is "Who will he bang? We shall see". It's a hilariously crass, obnoxious theme but I can't lie, I get a kick out of it (that could apply to the film as whole, to be honest). And as always, I love how Barry works it into the score throughout film.

Jesus fucking Christ I hate J.W. Pepper.

That being said...

9. Doctor No.
8. You Only Live Twice
7. Diamonds Are Forever
6. Live and Let Die
5. From Russia With Love
4. The Man With The Golden Gun
3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
1. (Tied) Goldfinger
1. (Tied) Thunderball

This was a really good one. Christopher Lee was a fucking great villain, suave and laid back, and I loved his direct interactions with Bond. His whole shtick reminded me a lot of The Most Dangerous Game, one of my favorite short stories, so I really enjoyed that whole element of his pride in his work and wanting the perfect kill with Bond. Nick Nack was a pretty great henchman too in his own right.

Also holy shit, Moore Bond can be cold as fuck. Pushed a kid off his boat into the river after lying to him about paying him for his help, and fucked another woman for 2 hours while the chick that he knows is madly in love with him hides in the closet right next to them the whole time. Fucking savage as fuck.

I think my biggest issues with the film are, first and foremost, fuck J. W. Pepper. Aside from that, the whole part with the martial arts school felt really weirdly out of place, like they just thought "Hey, you know what's cool? Martial arts. Let's have some." Plus Scaramanga's death and their fight was slightly anti-climatic. I liked that they ended up in the house of mirrors, but I feel like that set-up was tragically underutilized. Plus. the last few minutes after his death were kinda goofy, and you lost all sense of danger once the main villain died.

Overall though, very solid film, and I'm really starting to like Moore as Bond.

Moore talked about two scenes he didn't like in this one. Firstly, he really regretted pushing the kid into the river - especially in light of him going on to be an ambassador for UNICEF.

He also didn't enjoy getting rough with Maud Adams. He felt they were trying to make him too much like Connery's Bond in that scene, and it didn't suit him.

He does have these moments where he suddenly gets a little tougher and crueller than you expect, though, and he always pulls them off well.

Yeah, him pushing the kid really surprised me tbh, I expected him to really pay him somehow.

There's cold and dark moments thrown out his tenure, but they fit. A lot of people right his whole time off as so silly and campy, which to be fair it was a good bit, but those few dark moments I think sort of snap us back into reality a bit and also remind us he is still James Bond after all. He always has that cold streak.

I don't get what the problem was with Bond's interactions with women in the Connery films. All the women he went after seemed to really be into him, even if they were a bit resistant at first.

Bruh, that's the problem. Several of the women were EXTREMELY resistant and had to be super pressured into it. Shit man, look at Thunderball where he literally threatened he'd get a woman fired if she "didn't make it up to him", plus he was fully aware that what had happened had nothing to do with her whatsoever. This was also after she had denied his advances multiple times earlier.

Connery Bond was creepy and rapey as fuck. Still good films otherwise and still worth watching, but Connery Bond being a creep isn't up for debate.
