There shouldn't be any debate.

Watched it for the first time yesterday, amazing movie. But it's absolutely a Christmas movie. It's filled to the brim with Christmas music and decorations, a plethora of references to the holiday season, and the entire reason he's even there is because of Christmas.

Like, sure, you can say that with some reworking/rewriting you could make it without the Christmas stuff, but you can make the same claim about nearly any other movie.

It's a Christmas movie because Christmas is thematically tied into the movie and it's score IMO.

I mean, you can argue how much of a Christmas movie it is, but the idea that "it only takes place around Christmas" is flawed when it has such a Christmas feeling to it.

Why isn't it?

Just because it's an action movie?

Because that's silly.

Now that I've seen it, I'm convinced the people who claim that it's not are just being stubborn contrarians.

You mean a guy who didn't write, direct, or produce the movie?

Pro tip: Actors don't really have a "say" on what a movie is about. They can have opinions on it just like anyone else, but acting like they're the end all be all is silly. They play a character and help bring the script to life, but they themselves are not the script and do not have final say on what the film is or isn't.

Shooting off of this

Bruce Willis is a bad standard for this considering the more and more control he has had over Die Hard, the less and less "Die Hard" the series has been.

Whether you like it or not doesn't impact it, there's some really god awful Christmas movies out there too.

It can be a "standard action flick" and also a Christmas movie. It being a Christmas movie has 0 impact on its quality.

Also, Alan Rickman alone makes it more than a standard action flick.

No, before the internet (and after) it was considered a "Christmas movie" by nerdy tryhards. No normal people think it's a Christmas movie because normal people understand that one minor incidental aspect of a movie does not define its genre.

There is no such thing as normal people, no such thing as normal. The only people who say those kind of things are tryhards who have no idea and understanding of the world.

As someone who was alive when Die Hard first came out I can tell you that the TV ads for it called it a Christmas movie that would get your heart pumping.

So you can shut the fuck up and get the fuck out of here with your worthless opinion.

You know that excludes a ton of Christmas Movies with that logic though, right? Quite a few Christmas movies are just the general season.

Plus, if we're being that nitpicky, pretty sure the movie goes late enough into the night that it passes midnight, which would make it Christmas Day.

there are 3 aspects to a film that I think can make somethingea christmas movie:
1. it is set at christmas time, and setting it at any other time would require significantly altering the plot
2. it has the word "christmas" in the title
3. one or more character arcs involve searching for and/or discovering the meaning of christmas

Die Hard doesn't meet any of those
