What kind of genre do you collect?

I have quite a mix. I inherited classical, 70's rock and rare jazz. My wife and I have been adding alot of modern bands over the last couple of years.

punk and its related subgenres mostly.

though i do have some classic records I took from my grandmas attic when cleaning it, though they arent in good condition and had been sitting in a hot attic for years before i did. some of these are a couple led zeppelin albums, beatles, a bruce springsteen compilation....but when i go through and catalog all of this I wont include those since they werent mine and honestly i dont care about that kinda music, plus the conditions on em look pretty ratty so I wouldnt want to play em in that regard as well.

I'm counting anywhere from 150-160. making this list was a pain in the ass. Not all of these are regular albums some are soundtracks and some are compilations or singles but everything I have in the 12" or 10" vinyl format:

Where do you get most of your vinyl from?

I have one record store by me called Dark Side where it's a bit pricey but its a local business I'm happy to support. The rest come from flea market finds.

I havent bought records in a long time. Not that I dont love em but my basement got flooded last year and I have no room to set up my system. Plus saving money, but...

A local record store called The Attic. Like you said a little pricey but you like to support them.

Some places that sell vinyl in the real world, regardless of if I have had success finding records I want there

thrift stores, though these only tend to carry a bing crosby christmas , the odd super mega 70s/80s album(but nothing great like a dark side of the moon) and random musical stuff. Ive found a few childrends records there I thought were interesting like the aforementioned over the rainbow, and a couple of stories being read on 45. But you might find something cool.

The Exchange. I bought my first two records there: an Angels & Airwaves the adventure picture disk and landed backed with bitches aint shit by ben folds. They used to only carry a handful of records as they were and still are a catch all weird media store. they had and probably still do carry used laser discs. But now they have a dedicated section with tons upon tons of records. used, new, whatever. Not as massive as local record stores for example but several packed comic book esque bins.

Half Price Books. I dont know how nationwide this chain is, but they sell records. a mix of new and old records. seems like you can find gems here though i havent. You can also buy signed copies of books here so they get some limited vinyl.

ebay: good resource. especially for rarer 45s and stuff. The rarest record I own, everything falls apart by Husker Du was acquired here. You might even find a seller who has thousands of listings selling shit just to get rid of it, so you can find bargains.

amazon: kinda the same as ebay. Lotsa weird stuff on here, too. One year on record store day there was a 45 put out Don't Want to know if you are lonely by Husker Du on one side and the other was the green day cover. I found that on amazon. these individual sellers have some nice stuff sometimes.
