I have never had trouble pulling these off in any other smash game, but here I find myself putting up a shield rather than dodging half the time.

Rolling and dodging have been nerfed in Ultimate, because they were too strong in Smash 4. If you roll/dodge too much, then you'll experience lag when those rolls/dodges end.

I just get pissed because I want to roll behind you and face your back, but the character always faces the direction you rolled and then seems to have a 1 second lag when you try to turn around
