That seems quite low to me.

Maybe, but I could see how the number would be lower than the overall number per year on average going back into the 80s/70s though. With advances in technology I think people are less likely to become serial killers than they have been in the past.

Thats an interesting point, and it might deter some people, but I think that serial killers have a sort of disease that they cant stop themselves.

Also if you disappear the body then you are unlikely to get caught even today

i do find the rise of mass shooting the last 20 years interesting. However they really arent the same as serial killers.

They both feel marginalized by society and end up doing something drastic and horrible in order to make others feel the same way that they did. Its the natural evolution of serial killing because you can hurt more targets and also get massive media coverage thanks to social media and the 24/7 tv networks like CNN. I dont even want to imagine what will take the place of mass shootings

nah, a mass shooting is an outburst of uncontrolled rage. A serial Killer is calm and calculated. Very different

Not necessarily. Not every killer is exactly the same. You should watch the show Mindhunter. Its about when the FBI first started studying and categorizing serial killers and its pretty interesting lol

Also many serial Killers get some sort of sadistic pleasure from torturing their victims, its more about their personal satisfaction than "revenge against society" in most cases

The BC [British Columbia] Coroners Service has been able to identify eight of the previous 12 feet, belonging to six individuals, the agency said in a statement. In none of the cases was any foul play involved.

For starters, there are simply a lot of corpses in these waters. Kathy Taylor, a forensic anthropologist at the King County Medical Examiners Office, which has jurisdiction along the Seattle-Tacoma coast of Puget Sound, explained that this is a consequence of having a densely populated area on the coast. The metro area along the shores of the Salish Sea is home to 7 million people.

Suicides and drownings are somewhat regular events around any body of water, and as shoreline populations go up, the number of water mishaps also increases. In fact, New York City regularly goes through the grim ritual of fishing floating corpses out of the water in the spring as water temperatures rise.

lol, they say its entirely natural and no foul play

Mass shooters get all their victims in one go. Serial killers have multiple murders over a period of time.

Serial killers have a higher % chance of getting away with murder, though, because there is no connection between the victims and the killer. Think about it....you throw a rock through somebody's back window, enter their house, shoot them in the face, and then run off. The police show up and....what are they gonna do to catch you if the victim had no relationship to you? It actually wouldn't be that hard to avoid being arrested at all.

Another one of those discussions I had with my brothers a few months ago. My youngest brother who was 18 at the time was asking why there aren't big time, big name serial killers around in his lifetime. And really it's that there are, it's just that authorities haven't caught on to any pattern to realize there's some operating right now.
But it has been a good long while since there's been a huge nationally recognized one operating. Those DC shooters were probably the last and they only operated for a few weeks like 16 years ago.
The 70s - early 90s were the hey day of them.
