Dolphin was a better name than Gamecube.

Calling your system the Revolution sounds arrogant as fuck.

Revolution was cool sounding to gamers

Wii ended up having universal fun appeal

So, Wii was kinda perfect.

Both were bad but at least Revolution was a word that people knew.

I mean literally calling it Revolution is barely a step up from naming it the AWESOMEBOX. Which is no doubt why it was always just a working title or code name while they came up with the offcial name.

But then they crapped out "Wii."

Wii was instantly memorable, got people talking, and was easily established as a brand that could be catered to toddlers to geezers to everything in between. Revolution sounds cool, but those wouldn't apply to it. Wii was smart branding.

Wii U on the other hand...

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Not being the worst is still bad.

Though I think the New 3DS or whatever the fuck it was called takes the cake.

Random trivia; the Wii was originally going to be named the Perfect Nintendo Entertainment System, in line with the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.

They changed their mind when they realised that much like the NES and the SNES, the Perfect Nintendo Entertainment System would be shorted to the PNES.

that had little do to with the name. the console itself and the games gave it "universal appeal"

I have a harder time picturing grandma saying lets play Nintendo Revolution Bowling!

Wii ended up being extremely iconic and memorable.

the wii couldve been named anything and itd still appeal to everyone. youre under the impression that the name has everything to do with its appeal. it did not lol.

look no further than the wii u... by your logic it shouldve done well and appealed to everyone right? it shared the same name as its predecessor did it not? it flopped royally.

That's a bad argument. The Wii name hurt it more than anything because it seemed like either an add on or a revision of the Wii, and the casual crowd wasn't likely to buy something they thought they already owned.

The name "Wii" and its branding was actually huge for the Wii itself; from the "we (wii) would like to play" marketing, to the two i's being representative of two people together, it was advertised as and succeeded at being a family/friend oriented console, which is why it sold insane numbers to a diverse demographic

Wii is better--it's less clunky, easier to remember, and brandable across pretty much any language without changing it. Revolution is meant to sound cool but isn't really.

marketing failed the wii u. you market it to casuals but all of them thought it was just some $300+ add on for it.
