Neoen, the owner of the giant Tesla battery system in South Australia, released a new report for the first full year of operation and revealed that the energy storage system saved about $40 million over the last 12 months.
Teslas 100MW/129MWh Powerpack project in South Australia provide the same grid services as peaker plants, but cheaper, quicker, and with zero-emissions, through its battery system.

God bless. This is the start of something massive and wonderful.

It's a US company that is developing and installing these systems, even in the US itself...

Spending 66 million on a battery is more profitable than blowing a billion on a new coal plant or a couple times times that on a reactor.

It's almost as if the market is the best tool we have for determining who should win and who should lose.

Holy crap, that's pretty awesome. Any idea how big these things are, especially in comparison to something like a coal plant?

Maybe the full report has that information in it somewhere. But judging by the pictures it looks smaller than what a coal plant would be.

What's the lifecycle, what elements are used, and how much more lithium can we mine?

Zero emissions is including the offset of generation vs production of the battery system I'd guess.

More math, less sensationalism please.
