It depends on the area you live in. Ranges from solid to fucking awesome. Some jobs might pay quite a bit higher, but that isn't anything to sneeze at at all

makes sense. I live in the 'burbs in Atlanta. Cheap as hell. I also have 0 debt since I took no loans. Have no car payments either.

I was making right around that for my first job out of college. As long as you're smart with your money, it should be more than enough.

Edit: Okay I just saw the post about zero loans or car payment. You don't even have to be smart with your cash anymore, go nuts my man.

Sounds like a great time to get started on building a solid emergency savings!

Better than what I got as help desk starting out which was around $28k 6 years ago, though it was non profit. I also live in a cheap to live area.

Thanks guys. I guess I made a great decision in accepting the job offer. It's a Japanese company too. They treat everyone like family here. A lot of the salary men here have been here for 20+ years.

Savings would be nice. I'm thinking about paying my parent's mortgage off over the next three years with a portion of my income. I inherit the house anyway so I guess I'm helping us all out at the same time.

yup. this is amazing. I got an offer recently from this place I'm interning at downtown for 40k starting that's projected to 55k in 3 years if I continue thereafter I graduate. it's amazing how you can still enjoy the city life without going broke too.

The nice thing about IT is you can kinda be independent with some companies. I'm technically on call but I spend most of my time at home, but still get paid good money.

I had a brief stint with a Japanese company once. The factory portion wasn't much different than any American factory but the front office part was weird. A good portion of the Japanese guys were actually from Japan who come here for 6 months to years at a time, and many of them barely spoke English so there were some obvious language barriers. Pretty no nonsense environment but friendly at the same time. Most of them seemed to really like IT, probably because we upgrade their iPhones every year. I happened to be there for one of these upgrade periods and they were lining up with excitement.

My situation is different from others so i have a lower cost of living, but its definitely higher here than america. But, (and correct me if im wrong), but what americans call 401k is something we get here in top of salary as well by default with any job, so i was earning over 70k aud essentially (before taxes).

I was doing a mix of database admin, software dev, sysadmin, and level 1. But for a first job out of uni it was quite excellent
