Driving should be a hobby, not a requirement to live. I absolutely love driving and taking long road trips, but having to rely on it to get to and from work is pretty ridiculous especially if you're just starting out on the job ladder. The United States really needs to step up their game when it comes to public infrastructure and transportation generally speaking.
It was mind boggling how much money I saved the first time I moved into a city with decent public transportation, realizing how much money I was throwing in my tank on 45 minute one way commutes & maintenance was a game changer. I maintain a vehicle now, but purely for recreation. I couldn't imagine going back. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I absolutely agree. Living in a city without adequate public transport is very frustrating.

Not owning a car ONLY makes sense in a metro. Even in many metro areas, poor infrastructure and underfunding in the US makes owning a vehicle a requirement unfortunately. Edit: There's a documentary about it that I was going to link here but I guess it's not on YouTube anymore. Taken for a ride (1996) does a pretty good job explaining how General Motors and Goodyear conspired to dismantle public transportation early on in the US. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
