Current Events > Reconstructing Batman vs Superman's Original Concept?

I was watching the movie on TV (which I still enjoy, BTW, I feel the hate is unwarranted) and I remembered that the movie is vastly different from what Snyder wanted.

Studio intervention was huge in all of these DC movie universe pictures. For example, Suicide Squad was supposed to have Steppenwolf control the sorceress and the "gooey monsters" were supposed to be parademons:

Now Suicide Squad suddenly makes more sense huh? But WB had to intervene...

So that makes me wonder, maybe those very random and odd/disjointed scenes in BvS are remnants of the original concept? :

- Batman's nightmare - It clearly has parademons. Batman hadn't even seen parademons yet. The nightmare is odd an isolated, it must have a reason. Also, Superman alludes that Batman killed Louis.

- Flash in Wayne's dream - Batman didn't know Flash back then either. He appears in his dream and warns him about Superman and tells him that Louis is the key, and that Supes is bad.

Odd, isn't it? And strangely disjointed from the rest of the real story, but it's congruent with itself:

1) Something happens to Louis
2) Supes blames Bats for it
3) Supes went batshit insane, injustice: gods among men style because of it.

Perhaps the original concept for BvS was vastly different, just like suicide squad was? I mean, I am sure that in the end of BvS Supes would come back to his senses and get all chummy with bats in time for Justice League, perhaps they'd discover that Steppenwolf/Parademons were behind whatever happened to Louis instead or something... but this would explain why bats and supes fought to start with, and maybe WB was like "no, supes can't be "bad", period".

Thoughts?

Let's not blame the studio too much. Snyder is perfectly capable of making bad/mediocre films on his own

Fair enough. I don't want this topic to derail into a Snyder/DC/Wb hate fest, though.

Can we focus on the possibility that BvS was maybe vastly different in the beginning and that those odd, disjointed dream scenes are remnants of the original script?

While I was sure WB fucked things up I thought were they fucked up was craming too much into one movie. It combines the story of death of Superman and dark Knight returns then throws lex luthor and wonder woman in for good measure.

Lex was the biggest fuck up though. Got him all wrong. I don't care about what they got wrong with doomsday cause if you pay attention they make it clear he's not the original or at least not the first creature made in such a fashion (though in some comics how this one was made is actually how bizzaro got made)

You know what I would have loved?

A proper superman trilogy. Man of Steel, followed by a Proper Death of Superman, followed by a movie for the Reign of the 4 Supermen (steel, clone, cyborg, eradicator) arc.

Can you imagine a movie where Cyborg superman and Eradicator superman duke it out and destroy Coastal City?

Unfortunately I never read that arc. Never been into super man comics but I do have the entire death of Superman arc in graphic novel form. Superman is one of many heroes I don't care for solo I want at the very least Batman alongside him if not the justice league.

I don't really follow comic books in general, but I did like the death of superman arc and knightfall arcs in graphic novel form too. I recommend the supermen arc too (graphic novel form), it was good.

This is what post production is for. If WB was intervening that much (which I believe is way overblown) then they should have cut out the scenes that didn't make sense after the changes. Reshoots are a thing and for a film with such a high budget they shouldn't have had an issue doing so.

I don't think Snyder had a good vision for the films and I don't think he should have helmed the DC movies at all. If the studio had to intervene it was probably for good reason.

Cool.

But do you think the original BvS concept was very different?

Maybe in the very early stages. Like latest being story boarding. Definitely not once filming started or else the "Snyder cut" would be much more than it is. That doesn't make it different than any other film though.

I recall one part that got cut from the theatre version that was stupid. Explaining why superman couldn't see the bomb. May not seem big on paper but it is to anyone who is familiar with Superman's powers. Surely there was another scene that could have been cut or a few others shortened for that one.

Not paying for digital and not paying shipping. I'm not THAT into comics

Though I may use that to get one issue. Before my local shop closed they had all but one damn issue of a mini 6 issue series.
