Dude was in Dallas when kennedy was assassinated as a CIA officer.

Became the head of the entire CIA in the mid 70s leading the fight against the soviets and helped come up with the plan to radicalize islam to trap the russians in afghanistan

Became Vice President and within a few weeks an attempt was made on Reagan and he nearly became president a decade early.

Integral part in getting Russia to tear down the wall in berlin

Revealed the new world order in his 1000 points of light speech on september 11 1991 exactly 10 years before 9/11

Helped his son into office to help lead the war against terror

Was able to rule from the shadows in the covert war on terror while his son was a good puppet.

I truly dont believe there will ever be anyone in history to match his accomplishments

We'd have been better off if this were true (which it obviously isn't, like pretty much your whole list).

The problem is the majority of his accomplishments were classified, so people will never be able to appreciate him as much as he deserves

Trump has been chasing "Teddy jr" since he half-assed it in the 90s, and will continue doing so after actually getting elected.

What recession? The economy was pretty good during most of the 1980s, minus a few flashpoints.

no, what he did was far more damaging and long lasting. he pushed reaganomics, which has contaminated the right into thinking that massively overspending and massively undertaxing is ok. its that bullshit that put us into the 'great recession'.

Union-heavy companies (mostly GM) got fucked hard by reaganomics.

I don't think it's correct that this is what caused the Great Recession. Reagan certainly could have been better on fiscal conservatism, but his two successors (GHWB then Clinton) actually were both fairly reasonable on fiscal issues and we had a budget surplus coming out of the 1990s, so I don't think it makes sense to go back to Reagan to blame him for the Great Recession. It's also worth pointing out that while the deficit did grow a lot during the GWB years, that's also not what caused the Great Recession.

The unions destroyed those companies. They turned the auto companies like GM into these bureaucratic monstrosities that couldn't compete with their German and Japan competitors. The US had tariffs on foreign car imports for years as a form of corporate welfare to GM and the other American car manufacturers. Corporate welfare is definitely not a good thing, even if it does prevent layoffs in the short run, it leads to long term corruption and stagnation.

Union implosion and corporate welfare are not the same thing, but they do tend to heavily overlap.

My 60-something dad has been a loyal UAW member since he got on at GM in the early 1970s. Voted for Carter. Evangelized to me about Trump.
No idea how that works out.

I realize that union implosion and corporate welfare aren't the same. The unions destroyed the companies, and then they needed corporate welfare to stay afloat. When that corporate welfare was cut, the companies fell apart. They would later need corporate welfare again in the 2008 auto bailouts.

Also lol @ the story about your dad, I guess that's consistent with the idea that Trump did well with industrial and manufacturing type workers who saw their old plants get closed over the past 3-4 decades or so.

Fairfax is still there. It's likely to be one of the last that GM kills off, due to Kansas being a right-to-work state.
Event then, Honda or Toyota are very likely to buy out a pretty damn modern factory, in a right-to-work state.

He was a supemely okay president. The only things I can attribute to him are the Gulf War (which was like ten minutes long and did a whole lot of nothing) and raising taxes when he said he wouldnt. His one term speaks volumes to that (being the only one term president in my lifetime...well...until now).

Oh okay. It's not surprising though that there is such a tie between right-to-work states and having auto plants that actually stay open. It's consistent with the idea that the unions make these companies so uncompetitive that they end up having to shut down plants.

Dubya tried to crawl under it, but never got out of GHW's shadow.

Trump completely fucking stole Reagan's shadow, and everyone saw him do it, while sleeping in Teddy Roosevelt's populist tent.
