Because they stole it and to avoid a confrontation you should have the cops come first so if they refuse to return it they can be arrested.

Like if it was somewhere that it plausibly was taken by the person it might be good to call the cops not because the people are dangerous but to send a message that it's not ok behavior. Of course this also might cause an even worse situation that results in the dreaded neighborhood feud

Neighborhood relationships can be fragile and can turn ugly really quick so I donno. I'm just glad I've never had to deal with this kind of stuff. Most of mine have been really cool or just old as fuck >_>

Where Im from calling the cops over small stuff is how fueds begin. Especially if you didn't even attempt to confront the person directly. Hopefully you don't have petty neighbors who will research the law and do everything right along the line of you being able to do anything about it. That might sound like a sitcom but sitcoms are mostly based on the pettiness of real people.

Yeah, that's the thing. The person that took my trash can.. if he sets it out on trash day, he wants me to know that he took it. In order words, guy is looking for some beef for whatever reason. I don't even talk to my neighbors bruh. I'm just torn on what to do. I don't want to look like a bitch but at the same time I don't want to get into a scuffle over some petty bullshit.
