Not in the industry, that's why I'm having a hard time. I mentioned this before in the topic. I never got a software engineering internship while I was college, because I never intended to graduate or continue with computer science.

A lot of people dismiss me at the resume stage because of this, which is fine/understandable.

just internships for non-software engineering. I'm like worried someone will dox me, but I worked at a radio station and I was a counselor as well.

I'm going to save for house. If I could find a software job that would let me work remotely, that would be the dream. California housing prices is a nightmare. California in general is a nightmare in terms of taxes and living expenses.

The average software engineering salary in San Francisco is over 100k, but they live like shit because it's so expensive to live in the city. Even the cops in San Francisco are paid over 100k.

Why would I take an offer that I didn't want to do? I'm not their slave.

I don't need money and I just don't want to be a QA. Automated testing is just not something I want to do as a full-time career.

Why would someone pursue a computer science degree to test other people's programs?
A QA doesn't even code anything, they just find bugs and file reports.

You can make good money being a QA. I realize some make more than 6 figures.

But it's like... I don't really want to do it and if I can make the choice to do something more fun, I'm going to try to do that instead.

I'm being paid right now working for a startup. I'd rather continue doing this, having fun, looking for a software development job because I actually enjoy developing stuff >_>

I mean they are paying me in equity so I'm going to get fucked obviously, but still.

The fact remains you can still get a lot of good county/state jobs that only require a degree. Me turning down the offer will only be stupid in hindsight, if I don't get a better one. Offers are always about hindsight. I don't think their offer was particularly tantalizing.

But it wasn't just about the money.

It was because of the commute, what the job entailed, and the general attitude of the company.
I talked to their staff and they just had this weird attitude.

Do you realize how (hate to use this expression, but it fits) privileged you are to sit around on your ass waiting for a break? That's not the real world. That's entitlement and immaturity.

Life is always about making the best of the tools you have available to you.

Many people are too stupid for computer science, many people are bad at math, logic etc so they have to do other things.

I had the luxury of being good at math among other things, and now I have the luxury of free rent. I literally have no urgency just to take any offer.

So that's obviously a factor why I turned down the offer. I don't have the urgency to pay rent so I didn't take the job.

I would have taken the job, obviously, if I had to pay rent at the end of the month. I do have money saved up and I do have a lot of money in crytpo (LOL), but I don't want to tap into that if I don't have to.

Turning down the offer is only possible because you're an entitled child who can leech off your parents. Just think about that before you whine about SJWs next time. Most of us normal people had to actually work to pay for ourselves in school/life. Hell, the SJWs you're laughing at with BA degrees probably worked retail or fast food to put themselves through college. That alone makes them worth more to society than you.

What are you talking about. I went to college in California and independents here got free college if they were lower than a certain income bracket and meet a certain GPA requirement.

Some of my friends made more money from their financial aid than the actual tuition.

I think that probably depends on the college.

Community college is about 150 dollars a semester here. State schools are about 3k a semester, but the government will pay if you get good grades and your parents are below a certain income bracket.

And for grad school, a lot of them get paid to go to school. Well except Medical School.
My friend goes to UCLA and she makes a lot of money just for being in the grad program.

I think generally, the people who get fucked are
1. People who go to top/private schools with scholarships
2. People who go to medical or dental school

I think the idea behind medical school is that they pay after you graduation will cover the debt (doctors and dentists have great salaries)

but Medical School is like half a million.

He told me questions like that are a red flag and that he would have to report me to authorities. Then he pulled me aside and told me that the restaurant we were eating at was filled with Military personal and questions like that warrant an ass beating.

We argued for an hour outside of the base. I've told this story before, but no one believed me so it's not really worth repeating.

Man, it was a joke. He said I could ask him anything I wanted and that there were no limits.
I agree it was stupid, but I had already been talking to him for an hour and a half before then I thought we were clicking. I didn't think he was the type to get offended by that kind of joke. He is an engineer first and he only worked their for a year.

Technically the engineers are only contracted by the army, they aren't technically enlisted and they don't go through military training or anything like that.

Obviously I misread him and felt overly comfortable. I hadn't slept the night before (which is an excuse.)

But I could never work at a government base. The day I interviewed, they raised a flag for McCain and said a tribute to him mid-interview. These people would fucking kill me.

All it would take is one edgy anti-government joke, one joke against McCain, and then ofcourse I probably would have posted here about outrageous military secrets.
