Download the app, book them before you get to the park. I can't remember exactly, but I think you can book fast passes a week or so before your visit. If you're staying at a disney hotel, I think you can book your fast passes about a month or so before.

The good rides run out of passes fast. Plan ahead.

That's alright, I checked, you can reserve fast passes up to 30 days ahead no matter where you're staying.

It's 60 days if staying at one of their hotels.

I'd still recommend trying to reserve before you go, if possible. They run out quick. Some popular or new rides (7 dwarves coaster, Avatar, or the Toy Story coaster) might already be out of fast passes until 2019.
