I try not to make it a habit, but sometimes I just get so damn mad.

Can you describe in greater detail what you mean by 'off and on repeatedly'?

Pressing the power button repeatedly...like at a rate of 10 times every 3 seconds.

you should try something more productive when you're mad like... punching yourself in the balls at the same rate.

Yes that's bad. Shutting it down when you're done normally is good but not rage pushing the power button over and over. Quick way to burn something out.

Sounds like a terrible idea and will likely cause damage eventually.

Two possible scenarios here and one is much worse than the other.

1. The computer is already on. You press the power button and it begins to shut down. You repeatedly press it but it makes no difference, it's just going to proceed as normal with the shutdown.

2. The computer is off. You turn it on and mash the power button repeatedly. This is bad because it will actually power on and off, charging and recharging the capacitors and voltage regulators each time.

In short, it's only bad if each press actually powers it off and on. But getting pissed and mashing it while it's shutting down the OS doesn't really do anything. Also this is assuming it's the standard momentary switch power button and not the on/off type which is outdated and unused now for the most part.
