Don't get me wrong, the production values are nearly record setting, but it's sort of over-complicated and not really much fun to play.

I can see how someone can find it boring, but I didn't.

I enjoyed it, but I ended up missing a crucial element to enjoying it after weeks: convenient fast travel. If I want to get from Owanjila Dam to Annesburg, I don't want to ride the whole way there -- it reaches "been there, done that" quality pretty damn fast. I wish they'd set it up like Witcher 3 where, even if you have to go out of your way, you just have to check a signpost (of which there are often many) or run to the map's limits for a free teleport.

Now that I'm finished with the game, though, it's obvious that a lot of the mission structures are weak. Nearly everything is:

1) Approach camp/etc. stealthfully or otherwise
2) Shoot initial enemies
3) Shoot ridiculous number of reinforcements
4) Escape

I can understand if there's a guarded army train has tons of reinforcements, but 85 O'Driscolls jumping out of a thicket to kill me? Same for Murfree Broodsters and Skinner Brothers. It seems most of the attention went into interesting characters and dialogue, not really improving on RDR1's mission styles.

Still, an enjoyable game overall. I feel bad for all the rabbits I ran over, lol.

It seems like a loop they're stuck in due to the rather brain dead combat. They need a large amount of enemies to make up for it.

It's weird how they went for a grounded feel for everything but the combat.

I respectfully disagree. I found some of the mission ideas and mechanics to be truly unique. And while this problem plagued many games, im Not sure how to go about fixing it. Less enemies means less action which would likely result in pissed if gamers. I think of it as a bit of a catch 22.

Yeah I like when the little things in the missions like setting up TNT or burning tobacco fields or whatever.

It's more those moments after that when your cowboy friend says "Reinforcements!" and then you bunker down behind cover and lock-on to waves onto enemies from a distance until you're told to leave and Arthur says "Wow that have gone better!"

I'm only on chapter 3 and this seems to happen more often than not.

I agree it's a catch-22 to fix it though.

There are definitely a few missions where you have to fight way too many enemies.

I think it was just a concession they had to make. I would have preferred a bit more realism in this regard (maybe make it so that you could only take 2-3 hits?)

But I feel this was a decision made because they knew people would complain too much if the gunplay was too much of a departure from GTA.

I love watching people play sandbox games but I dropped off of watching people play RDR2 hard and fast because it was so dull most of the time. That kind of put me off of buying it entirely

It's one of those games where people will jump on you if you don't like parts of it or criticize it at all. No gaming product is ever going to be perfect or appeal to everyone.
