I think about it often since my Dad had a heart attack a few months ago. He made it but now it's a thought that crosses my mind regularly.

Yeah, but there's not much to do about it. Either stress it, ignore it, or make peace.

I used to give it more thought, maybe not be overwhelmed by sadness but I did give it thought in moments of sadness and vulnerability in my life. If theres anything Ive come to fundamentally believe about humanity as Ive aged is that we have the tools in our disposal to overcome the most tragic of circumstances regardless of whether it was unjustifiably forced upon us or just a bad luck of the draw. 3 billion years of evolution and still going, based on that perspective I guess Im just optimistic that were profoundly more capable than we think we are. Death doesnt mean much in the face of that power. Kant called this sorta feeling describing it as sublimity, only after I felt it did I realize what he meant.

I've thought about it a lot, but I try not to get too bothered by it. I usually attend several funerals every year, so it does encourage me to spend more time with the elderly friends and family I have. Lately, when I see someone I haven't talked to in a long time, I've been straight up thanking them for their kindness and generosity. Don't want to have any regrets, in case anything happens.
