Yeah. I was a big fan of the Mr Backlund gimmick, Luna Vachon and Owen tagging with whoever he was tagging with at the time. Diesel as champion was the most boring shit ever and I stopped watching for most of that era. Before then I used to watch WWF Superstars and NWA on TBS.

I don't think the AE would have been as much fun to watch if you hadn't seen everything leading up to it. There were a lot of payoffs that new viewers probably didn't get.

No, I was too young / I'm from the UK where wrestling wasn't as easily accessible to watch. Late 90s wcw sparked my initial interest which didn't last long then got into wwe again in 2016 and since moved on to other promotions.

No, they wasn't. Ted Turner had ownership of that company. His pockets was deep.

I enjoyed the Golden Age, but I am very partial to the Attitude Era. That was the best time for wrestling IMO.

New Generation was very hard to watch, and everything after the Attitude Era killed wrestling for me.

Early 90's WCW was bad mainly due to the booking committee setup and Ric Flair cockblocking everything that didn't work for him. That's pretty much it. They had a lot of great talent that went unused.

Jim Crockett Promotions went on an acquisition spree because they saw what WWF was doing and knew they had to grow to compete but they grew too fast without the cash to support it. From what I understand they over spent on luxuries as well and took too long to embrace newer revenue streams. Way I always saw it JCP/WCW always was a better at wrestling, WWF was better at business.

If they didn't acquire Hogan and/or Hall and Nash, would they have gone out of business before the AOL/Time Warner merger?

That is a hard question to answer. I think that wrestling was exploding no matter what and the NWO could have worked without those 3, but it wouldn't have been nearly as big. I heard they wanted Ricky Steamboat as the original 3rd member and I don't think he could have played bad guy well at all. But I think they could have found someone. And in some ways NWO not being as big as it was I think would have helped WCW long term.

AOL would have still pulled the plug unless they were just printing piles of cash, but it doesn't sound like Turner owned WCW ever printed piles of cash, they just burned it.

So I would guess not nearly as high of highs but the product would have never gotten as bad, so maybe in 2001 it would make more sense to let it keep existing, or at least be more attractive to investors other than WWE.

Hmm.

Without the nWo, or a different initial trio, would Bret go to WCW earlier? Perhaps he gets tired of The Kliq? And then Stone Cold wouldn't have won KOTR since Triple H wouldn't have been punished.

I wish we could see an alternate timeline to see how all of that plays out if Hall and Nash didn't jump.

Yeah. I vaguely remember being very young and seeing the Undertaker and Paul Bearer.

I also remember seeing some opening to a show that was set on the beach and I think Hulk Hogan was there doing Hogan things. But I can't for the life of me find it now. Maybe just imagined it.

95-96 or so was actually pretty great in hindsight. So many wrestlers were in their prime as performers. Even if the angles weren't that great there were some great matches in that time period and almost no one was coasting by on past prestige.

Bret never wanted to leave WWE. He had signed the largest and longest contract because Vince was afraid of him jumping. Then Vince thought he was too expensive. If Hall and Nash never jump, I don't think the 20 year contract is ever offered to Brett. The original contract actually would have expired only 2 years ago. He probably would have gotten shorter contracts more in line with the industry.

If WCW never picked up Hogan and his ilk, I think there is a good chance Austin stays WCW. I think that would have required there to be no Bischoff I think though.

If I had a time machine and total control over WCW I would have put Jim Cornette in as the head booker.

If you had a time machine the best way to save WCW would be to stop Sonny Onoo from making an unsuccessful board game in the 80s. This makes more sense than most will realize.
