One good thing to remember is that you can hover over any trait to see what it could turn into.

Really, though, I get what you are saying, but I appreciate the additions anyway. Having a council actually have to be swayed is a fun mechanic that means that you actually have to pay attention to who you are appointing and weigh choosing your friends against appeasing your vassals or appointing competent councilors.

There is an option that turns your heir ambitious, but it also makes them your rival. It's worded really poorly, so I didn't figure it out either and always wondered why my heirs hated me so much.

No, basically no downside. It's generally better to have more people to choose from, especially if your vassals are passive enough to not demand seats on the council. You have multiple options, including hiring them from the intrigue menu, inviting them through the character finder, or from some random events.

I find playing around nomads really frustrating. They can keep a standing horde the size of several (relatively undeveloped) counties but their troops are also way better(to be fair, horse archers should rule, particularly on plains), so dealing with them is hell. And they're frustratingly stable in vanilla!
Naturally, I have Cuman game going(867) to see how the AI likes it. Results suggest not much so far!

Yeah, I'm not doing it. If my guy was already evil and fucked up, I would, but not this guy. He's been really kind of people. I even made. . .um, what's it called again? I got Tributary State from a place I'm not even going to take the time to spell out, but China came in and did the same thing out of the blue. At least I think it was China
