Back when nobody knew what to do with 3D graphics, and focused on ugly, blocky things that vaguely resembled anything, instead of 2D games.

A lot of good games came from the PS1. Legacy of Kain, Parasite Eve, Silent Hill, Resident Evil. Plus the Oddworld titles the people remember though it was a GameBoy title first.

Um, no. Refrigerated foods rot too. The only way to actually prevent the rot is to freeze it.

To be fair (and this is the same for most every system), early PS1 games definitely look like worse when compared to late PS1 games.

FFVII had some awful character models compared to even VIII, let alone IX.

That's strange. I thought Oddworld adventures were an earlier version of Abe's Oddysee.

I really, really wanted Squeenix to embrace the blockiness of Final Fantasy 7 and give us LEGO FF7 instead of a serious remake.

All the LEGO Star Wars and Harry Potters and stuff I've played have been basically the same game with different themes, but by tackling an RPG franchise they could have created something really unique and loads of fun...

The era holds up pretty well. I don't think generic fps with paid for dance moves are going to hold up well against some of the last masterpieces. Considering you probably won't even be able to play many games from this era due to its marketplace and servers shutting down, even doubly so.

Of course they will. Servers cost money to run, and if few people are using them, then they get shut down since its no longer worth the cost of running them. Plenty of servers for older games have been shut down. Heck, Nintendo themselves recently said they are ending eshop support for the Wii in January 2019.

Steam and GoG will never shut down. The only one that has any chance at this point would be Uplay.

Steam and GOG are different, and not really what we were talking about. Steam and GOG are basically stores. We were talking about servers for individual games and multiplayer servers and stuff like that. There are plenty of those that have shut down. Xbox Live for example no longer works with the original Xbox. In a few years, I bet Xbox Live servers for the 360 will be shut down too.

So you think stores like Steam don't run on servers?

Did I say that? No, I did not.

I said we were talking specifically about servers for individual games and multiplayer servers and that kind of stuff. Steam and GOG are run on servers of course, but they are really more of a storefront than anything else, so they don't really compare.

If you scroll back up to your first post, you said no server will be shutting down, and I have already mentioned that the Xbox Live server for the the original Xbox has already shut down. I also mentioned that Nintendo is shutting down the Nintendo Wii servers in January.

So you're wrong about these things never being shut down. They do get shut down. Heck, are there even any active servers for popular 90s/early 2000s MMORPGS like Everquest anymore? Does anyone even remember Everquest? If you go to the Steam page of many old school games, there is often a notice saying that the multiplayer server no longer exists so only single player is functional today, like the notice on the F.E.A.R. Incidentally, this is why some series (such as the Atelier series) looked so awkward on the PS3.

Games like Atelier Iris and Mana Khemia were made in 2D (or at least using 2D sprites) as late as the late PS2 era. And when the company that made them finally decided to switch to full 3D for PS3, they wound up with outright laughable 3D animation and 3D engines, made all the more noticeable by the fact that they still wound up with very high resolution and framerates compared to back when people were still figuring out "how to 3D" back on the PSX.

For that last part, actually go look at some video footage of, say, Final Fantasy 7's walking animations, or its in battle attack or spell animations. The characters "running" to an enemy from where they stand for a basic attack is literally a SINGLE "FRAME" of model movement (and due to the framerate, it only really actually shows on screen for a few frames so its not very noticeable).
