I'm thinking hard on buying a new monitor, namely this one: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-27UD58-B-IPS-4K-UHD-Free-Sync-Gaming-Monitor-3840-x-2160-5ms-Response-Time/202100681390

41% off cost, with free shipping. Nothing I do can remotely push 4K (no PS4 Pro/ XB1X; video card is a GeForce 960), but the TV/monitor is arguably the most important part of it, and the safest thing to invest in. It's also not a bad price for a 4K monitor.

So, thoughts? Am I putting too much thought into getting a 4K monitor? Should I try to get a 1440p monitor instead?

Why get a 4K monitor when nothing you have can output 4K? Keep what you have now and pick up a 4K monitor when they become much cheaper. There's no such thing as investing in electronics. Anything you buy is outdated immediately.

I'm looking at upgrades, but the 1060 (the most cost effective upgrade) is still over $300, while the 1080 is well over $600. I had no problems dropping this scratch before, but now it all seems so cost prohibitive. >_>

GTX 960 can handle 4K desktop, and some older / smaller games in 4K, no problem. I have a GTX 960M and it can do that.

The point is unless you want it for movies or for production reasons, there's no reason to get a 4k monitor unless it was drasically cheap, like 200 milkbag bucks or whatever it is in Canada

A 2080 is going to be of a better choice. We'll get cheaper and cheaper monitors/tvs

Rule 1, you get what you pay for.

That aside, its worth investing in a 4k screen even without having anything that can put out that much. One day, you will probably upgrade to something that will putout that much.

I don't want to have to use a computer monitor for 2-4 years before I can enjoy the benefits of it at max power. There is no investing in tech, because it moves/upgrades pretty quickly. You buy it for use now, not 3 years down the road.

The TV market isn't that difficult. Do you need new TV? If so odds are good someone you know has a spare you can have that is good as new. If they don't, the most important thing to consider is what sorts of devices you will ever want to hook into it. HD is kinda important these days, nothing really seems to support 4k yet. If you want to play your NES get one with RCA, etc.

Well in general monitors are the things that barely drop in prices over the years. A good monitor can last you 7+ years to be honest.

But I wouldn't invest in a 60hz monitor at the current moment.
