A man who was released from jail after an auto theft charge in suburban Tampa, Fla., attempted to steal another car in the jail's parking lot, police said. Problem: There was an off-duty deputy behind the wheel.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday arrested Klaid Karpuzi, 41, of New Port Richey, Fla., and led him right back into the jail building. Local media report that he's charged with a second count of attempted auto theft.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Karpuzi had been arrested two days prior and was being released on $5,000 bail. Police say as he left the jail, he walked around a vehicle parked outside and pulled on the passenger-side door handle. The officer then got out, identified herself as a deputy and escorted him back inside to the front lobby.

Karpuzi told police he saw a vehicle with the engine running, didn't realize someone was inside, and believed it was there to take him to see his parents. He told deputies he has bipolar disorder, WFTS-TV reports. His earlier incident involved trying to steal a truck with a teenager sitting in it outside a supermarket, police say.

Karpuzi was reportedly released again on another $5,000 bail, only this time without further incident.
