This, in fact I remember my dad telling me it's rude to ask people about their political standings when it isn't warranted

both my parents were Republican, but they never talked about politics with me until I was of voting age.

other than the time in 2008 when I had to watch the conventions for both parties for school. I thought Obama was cool and McCain was lame, and all my dad said was to keep an open mind.

Growing up. Grandfather and aunts were democrats. Mother was independent. Step father republican.
CA hispanics except step father.
Then the 2000s to now happened.

Grandfather right before his death, one aunt and mom became republicans. The other aunt became independent. Two of my brothers and myself are republicans. One other brother is independent.

Neither, thankfully.

My dad is definitely a conservative, and while my mom leans right, she's much more open minded and
could probably vote democrat if the right candidate came along. That said, entirely apolitical upbringing. I
can't even speak for other family members, but interestingly enough (if I had to guess) I'd say my dad's
family were more left leaning and my mom's more right leaning. Still, I have never heard much in regards
to a specific party affiliation in my family, only the occasional discussion on certain issues. I'm grateful for that.

My dad's family originated from CA, my mom's from east TX. Probably not that big a stretch.

Personally, I refuse to align myself with a party and I can't claim to have views that fall entirely on one side
or the other, anyway. This at least demands a better understanding of each candidate before casting a vote.
Whoever represents my perspective most suitably and has reasonable solutions generally gets my vote.

My mom is democrat, my dad is independent but leans towards conservative.

Again, didnt get taught or know much until I was the voting age. When they did talk to me it was basically to not be a dumbass and look into what Im voting for, not just voting yes or no because some bullshit ad on tv/radio said so.

Personally Im independent but prefer more hands off government. If I vote against something its because its stupid or there was a good aspect but plenty of bad that could come with it. Like true or false in school, if any part is wrong its false.

I don't think my dad ever voted until the 2012 election, and even then I'm not sure who he voted for.

As a kid I know that my mom voted for Clinton in 96 and Gore in 2000, because I asked, but that was the extent of any political views ever being expressed while I was growing up.

I also remember, probably around the time I got to college in 2009, my mom saying that Reagan was the reason she changed her registration to be a Democrat. Last year I asked her what she meant by that, and she said that Reagan's rhetoric was so aggressive and dangerous she thought he was going to trigger WW3.

My parents were always apathetic to any group at best, flat out anti-government at worst.

It was only with Donald Trump that they seemd to give any sort of shit at all, but that is waning as Trump gets less and less done every day.

If I had to say they were "something", I guess I would say they were more republican than democrat just because they tend to be more conservative than liberal. But they'd never agree with that and say they hate republicans.
