It isnt a blanket answer. Some absolutely do need a raise. Some dont. Depends on the pay and location (cost of living matters), as well as how much work a teacher does (some teachers do the bare minimum, others dont).

Idk. Having two kids both in middle school, they do everything by computer. They get assign a personal laptop (chromebooks) and they do all their assignments from there, including classes. Literally they will be at home watching educational videos and videos that teaches them how to do their math homework.

I wonder what the hell are teachers doing in school, then? I might as well home school them.

Back in my day, teachers would actually TEACH by using a chalkboard and actually assign us homework. Homework that we had to do on PAPER and show our work.

So I feel like teachers have it easy now days compared to before. So no, I dont think they need a raise. I get the impression they don't teach anymore. The computers are the ones teaching my kids.

So a couple of problems with this post.

Your children's school went paperless and that makes teaching easier because....? I get the whole having-information-easily-accessed has improved research but it also has resulted in lower levels of critical thinking. Which is a hurdle we have to deal with.

Have you actually seen what goes on in your kid's classroom? I'm not accusing or anything, I honestly want to know. That's one of the biggest problems I have is parents criticizing what goes on in the classroom without actually seeing what goes on or coming to conferences. (Again, not accusing you, just talking in general).

And while I'm very glad your kids have the opportunity to access those materials (getting personal laptops is amazing). Not all schools have that luxury. So saying that teachers nowadays have it easy, that they don't teach, and this and that seems a bit off-putting when you base it strictly on your own experiences and what your kids' school has provided. >_>

Fair enough.

But let me tell you about one of the things that bother me:

I see my daughter sometimes struggle with her homework so she comes to me and tells me she doesnt understand the video the computer is showing. I don't mind helping my daughter, but I asked her, "how did your teacher tell you to do it?"

She said: "She doesn't. She tells us to just follow the steps of the video and we'll go over the answers tomorrow"

So tell me, should I not be concerned about the way they are teaching my kids at school?

I did talked to the Principal about it was a losing battle. They practically told me the computer learning or interactive learning is the way of the future.

You absolutely should have issues with that. And if there is a way to change their schools or rally a group of other concerned parents to take issue with this particular teacher then I hope you can do that. If that teacher isn't ensuring your daughter isn't understanding the lesson and the principal isn't holding that teacher accountable then they have no business as educators.

I bolded those words to show you that you have issues with those two specifically and that somehow caused you to say "Teachers now have it easy", that we don't teach anymore, and that we don't deserve any extra pay.
