- Lots of really entertaining scenes
- Often really funny
- Three dimensional individuals
- Very good underdog story
- Weirdos are good
- The music, of course, with some great songs
- Really well acted
- Plenty of content

I really enjoyed it. Very few average or bad scenes. Perhaps a bit too long, but they meant they could stuff a lot in.

Isn't it getting quite a lot of criticism for largely pretending Freddies homosexuality barely existed and wasn't a big part of his life and music? Plus abruptly ending before his aids battle.

I must admit, it didn't address him being gay much, but it was clearly there. Several scenes relating to it. Anyway, as a lot of people in the LGBT would tell you, there's more to a person that his or her sexuality.

Most LGBT people I know that have seen it said they did it very well and were happy they showed his love for women and men he had, rather than just being gay. They were happy it didn't try to present him as just gay or whatever, and the struggles he went through with his sexuality (Can't be bi, gotta be gay!)

I watched Live Aid again today to prep for the movie which I'll watch on Tuesday. I'm pretty excited. Freddie Mercury really is the greatest rock star of all time.

I've heard good and bad things about the movie, but praise for Malek's portrayal of Freddie Mercury has been pretty consistent

The first part is because none of us knew about it until long long after. He was never openly gay and kept an extraordinarily tight lock on his life. He hated the press at all times and gave them nothing and made them pay for it in blood. Why would you change that for inclusivity points? This wasn't Rob Halford.

The second part is super duper ultra mega horseshit, because his struggle with aids and what he managed to accomplish on that last album while on his deathbed is some of the most moving moments of his life.

Yeah, you don't see acting like that often.

I like the way the film was about Queen, but focused on Mercury. Some people have complained, I think, but I thought it worked really well. I mean, he was the leader singer, plus he was probably the most interesting.

Just out of interest, what were people's favourite films for this year? I think this might've been mine, but I want to know what other people think of this year's releases.

Its an overly rosy depiction of the group and Freddy, his family would only sign off if they did that.

Not a great movie, more like a long music video.

People complain too much.

Seriously. I expect Freddie would've generally liked the way he was portrayed.

Bohemian rhapsody was basically terrible. The only redeeming qualities are the acting and, obviously, the queen songs.

It was horribly corny, had terrible pacing, the humor was rarely funny, and it had a horrible habit of doing something in one scene and then completely forgetting about it the next scene.

But Im glad you liked it!

I think it would have been better to do like Man on the Moon (Andy Kaufman) and see Freddie all the way through, but it still touches on a lot of his career that most people wouldn't be aware of, so I guess it gets the job done.
